Frequently Asked Questions
Which countries and tax systems are supported in this calculator?
This tool supports Goods & Services Tax (GST), Value Added Tax (VAT), and Sales Tax calculations for over 22 international tax systems: India (5%, 18%, 40% GST 2.0 slabs), Australia (10% GST), Canada (5% GST / 13%-15% HST), New Zealand (15% GST), Singapore (9% GST), Bhutan (7% GST), Maldives (8% GST / 16% TGST), Papua New Guinea (10% GST), Jersey (5% GST), United Kingdom (20% VAT), France (20% TVA), Germany (19% MwSt), Italy (22% IVA), Spain (21% IVA), China (13% VAT), South Korea (10% VAT), Indonesia (11% PPN), Saudi Arabia (15% VAT), UAE (5% VAT), Mexico (16% IVA), Argentina (21% IVA), and South Africa (15% VAT).How do I remove GST or tax from an MRP / gross invoice total?
To work backwards from a total price that already includes tax, divide the gross amount by 1 plus the tax rate decimal — never subtract the percentage directly. For example, $1,150 including 15% GST is $1,150 ÷ 1.15 = $1,000 net base with $150 GST. Subtracting 15% directly from $1,150 would incorrectly give $977.50. Selecting "Remove tax (total → base)" automates this exact division for any rate. What is the CGST, SGST and IGST split for Indian GST invoicing?
For sales within a single Indian state (Intra-state supply), GST splits equally: 18% GST becomes 9% CGST (Central GST) + 9% SGST (State GST). For sales across state borders (Inter-state supply), the entire 18% is levied as IGST (Integrated GST). Select "India" from the dropdown to toggle between intra-state and inter-state tax splits. What are the current Indian GST 2.0 slabs?
Following the GST 2.0 structural reform (effective 22 September 2025), India merged the old 12% and 28% slabs into a simplified four-tier structure: 0% (exempt essential items), 5% (merit goods & basic services), 18% (standard rate for general goods, manufacturing & tech services), and 40% (luxury & sin goods). How does Canadian GST vs HST work in this tool?
Canada levies a 5% federal GST across all provinces. Certain provinces (such as Ontario at 13%, and Atlantic provinces New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland at 15%) combine federal GST and provincial sales tax into a single Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). You can select the specific Canadian preset or enter custom rates. Is GST calculated on the net discounted price?
Yes — under standard accounting principles, GST/VAT applies to the taxable transaction value after trade or commercial discounts. If an item listed at $1,000 has a 10% trade discount ($900 net) and 10% GST, the tax is $90 (calculated on $900), giving a final total of $990.Is any of my financial or client billing data stored?
No. All tax calculations execute 100% locally in your web browser using client-side JavaScript. No invoice amounts, currency selections, or calculation logs are ever transmitted to or saved on any server.
